Reactive Knife Defense

50 1- Step Sparring Moves:
10 each of the following,

A. Throws: (outer reaping, monkey, inner reaping, fireman, etc.)
B. Advanced Kicking: (double jumping side kick, double jumping roundhouse, spinning kicks, jumping kicks, tornado, etc.)
C. Arm Bars: (to submission)
D. Sweeps:
E. Wrist Locks: (to submission)

(Any combination, sweeps, take down, arm bars, to submission, may count as 2 or 3 moves, if done correctly)

15- Ground Fighting Techniques:

Show position of:

  • Guard
  • Mount & Side Mount
  • Choke side mount
  • Chokes from top mount
  • Escapes from mounted position
  • Escapes from the guard position

1st Degree Black Belt

ALL TESTING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE COMPLETED
FULLY AT LEAST 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO YOUR TESTING DATE

1st degree black belt requirements

Basic Requirements:

  1. 8 active months (active means attending a least 4 classes per month)
  2. 50 classes at advanced belt classes or 70 mixed belt classes
  3. 20 teaching classes (additional to the above requirements)
  4. Test Fee:  $150.00 due on date of pretest completion
  5. You will receive:
    1. Your embroidered black belt with your name, date of test and school listed with your preference in English or Korean two weeks prior to the test date
    2. Plain black work out belt
    3. Middle weight black pants
    4. Assistant instructor patch. (You receive full instructor certification at completion of your second degree black belt test)
  6. You are eligible to wear a white top with black trim on completion of your black belt test.  This is optional and not part of your testing fee.
  7. Current prices for black trim top are approximately:
    1. Middle weight:  $34.00
    2. Heavy weight:  $53.00 plus

Thesis Requirements:

  1. You will be required to turn in a “thesis” on the following subjects: Please use your own words- do not plagiarize and most importantly list all sources!
  2. Option 1
    1. What Tae Kwon Do means and the history
    2. What Tae Kwon Do and Shim Mu Do has meant to you so far
    3. What your future plans and goals are in Shim Mu Do

OR

  1. Option 2
    1. Choose another topic and have it approved by Mr. Malone before you write your thesis
  1. Your thesis should be three pages, double spaced, standard margins
  2. Must be typed
  3. Include your typed 25 one steps on a separate page in your thesis

 

– Book must be read “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie. Must be able to answer some questions, pertaining to the some of the topics in the book.

Must know all forms from white to black belt and their meanings:

Basic One, Chungi, Dan-Gun, Do-San, Won-Hyo, Yul-Gok, Joong-Gun, Toi-Gye, Hwa-Rang, Choong-Moo,

  • Kwang-Gae, Is named after the famous Kwang-Gae-Toh-Wang, the 19th king of the Koguryo Dynasty, who regained all the lost territories including the greater party of Manchuria. The diagram (±) represents the expansion and recovery of lost territory. The 29 movements refer to the first two figures of 391 A.D., the year he came to throne.

  1. Have 25 typed, advanced techniques
  2. Advanced means, that Mr. Malone wants to see:
    1. Arm bars
    2. Wrist locks
    3. Choking
    4. Throwing
    5. Sweeping and controlling techniques
  3. Must be approved by Mr. Malone during pre-testing.
  4. All moves must be taught to you from our school prior to practice, otherwise an injury could occur to you or others

Brown Belt test requirements:

Demonstrate all previous skills:

The skill development from G-1 to Brown has to greatly improve with the use of advanced kicking techniques.  The Kata will be new.  But you must refine your moves to make them almost perfect.

Forms:

High Red– Choong-Mo, was the name given to the Great Admiral Yi Soon-Sin of the Yi Dynasty.  He was reputed to have invented the first armored battleship (Kobukson) in 1592, which is said to be the precursor to the present day submarine.  The reason why this pattern ends with a left hand attack is to symbolize his regrettable death, having no chance to show his unrestrained potentiality check by the forced reservation of his loyalty to the king, 30 moves

 

Kicks: Development of flexibility is important at this level.   Measure the distance from foot to foot in the V-sit stretch.  You must stretch daily on you own!  10 minutes.  Increase in distance is critical to test. Always work on wall stretching before class

Modifications will be made if you have an impairment that will not allow you to do flying kicking techniques.  You will be required to do advanced techniques without much jumping.  This will be for students with knee injuries, back issues etc…

Hwa-Rang, is named after the Hwa-Rang youth group which originated in the Silla Dynasty in the early 7th Century. The 29 movements refer to the 29th Infantry Division where Tae Kwon Do developed into maturity, 29 moves

Kicks: Keep stretching daily on you own!  10 minutes.  Increase in distance is critical to test.

  • Outer reaping thigh throw

  • Suggestion: Gracie hip throw or The bump take-down

One Steps: Sweeps

  • Advanced wrist control take downs
  • Advanced front choke escapes

Throws:

  • Hip throw:  Describe the “Hokey Pokey Hip Throw”

Reverse Punch, One Steps:

  • Crescent kick to the right fore arm, jumping back kick
  • Step in right foot to a guard block position strike to arm, strike low with right back fist, then high to face with back fist, step forward with left leg knee strike to groin, inner leg sweep
  • Shoulder arm bar move
  • **Must have a total of 10 one-steps**

Ground Defense:

  • Escape from the mounted position

Walking Drills:

  • Twin knife hand block
  • Twin forearm block
  • Knife hand strike, L-stance
  • High block, reverse punch
